As I began writing about my favourite songs/albums of 2011 (just wrapping it up, putting out soon I hope), I felt as though my opening paragraph had already been written. Not in a “This is fate, the words are simply falling out into place” kind of way, but a “fuuuuck, where did I read this already?”
Ah yes. Last December.
One year ago:
As Twenty-Ten comes to a close, I of course partake in...

“Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.
By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers...

Even before I had a Mac, I used Safari. This was back before I knew about all the bells and whistles that went on behind the scenes of browsers. I simply loved the way Safari looked over others. When I got my Macbook Pro, of course Safari being the standard browser, it remained my browser of choice. We’ve had a great relationship, Safari and I.
I have to say though, Safari 5.1 has been...

Before moving to the city, people-watching was rare treat, a sport that happened infrequently because, well, there weren’t many people to watch. However, here in the bustling metropolis, it is impossible to get away. And Vancouver isn’t even that populated. I now tend to do most of my people-watching as I ride the train everyday. Sure about 90% of humans are uninteresting to look at on first...

As Twenty-Ten comes to a close, I of course partake in my usual reflection and (naturally) loathing of how quickly the time has passed. But through this shroud of negativity, there is a comfort I can always find. As per my entire childhood and growing years up to now, music has been a very positive influence and involvement on/in my life.
I wouldn’t really be able to categorize myself in a...

Today I gave a man a sandwich.
Like most (or rather, many) people not from a city, I am very sympathetic to the homeless. When one is subject to seeing homelessness every day since childhood, they tend build an immunity; to see these people not as exactly that, people, but as lesser. Indeed, perhaps many of the homeless have made mistakes—and continue to—yet there are others are simply always...

Whoa.
It sure has been a while. The past 2 months have been a complete and utter blur; looking back I feel as though but a couple days have gone by. Time seems to have whisked by. Nothing has happened, yet so much has. There is nothing to blame for such lack of growth, thus it becomes hard to express—or even come up with a topic, for that matter—anything. I have always been one to wear my soul...

I had a conversation with myself the other day.
I suppose it was rather a reply, since a conversation tends to be an intelligent (usually) passing of multiple sentences from altering parties. Perhaps it was out of loneliness, perhaps it was merely a retort, but my self-reply was absolutely one hundred per cent automatic. I was taken aback when it happened, and the more I thought about it, the...

I was astounded when my mother started to catch on with Facebook. I was slightly traumatised when I received my friend request from her, but even more so when she uploaded her first photo album. But now that I think back on it, I am not so much disturbed as I am in awe. She was able to figure this out…
Of course, there are over 500 million users of Facebook worldwide, so I suppose learning to...

There is a story—or rather legend—floating around regarding one of my favourite artists, Pablo Picasso. Story has it that it was a fine afternoon in the park, and Picasso was sitting on a bench sketching away when a woman approached and said boldly,
“It’s you—Picasso, the great artist! Oh, you must sketch my portrait! I insist.”
And thus he agreed to do so. He studied her momentarily, grabbed...

“Phil. Phil. Hey, come here. Come here. Uh… Phil. I’m… I’m gonna try… talk. I’m gonna try to say something-something. Do you know Lily, Phil? Do you know her? Lily? Oh, she’s my love, my life, love of it. Y’know. In school… I’m twelve years old, in school, in sixth grade. I saw her. I didn’t go to that school, but… uh… we met. My friend knew...

I need help. I need your opinion. This song, “Bear” by The Antlers is beautifully crafted and simply amazing, but I can’t decide on what it is about. So what do you think? It is one of the two, I am pretty sure, but is it
There’s a bear inside your stomach, a cub’s been kicking from within. He’s loud, though without vocal cords, we’ll put an end to him. We’ll make all the right...

I don’t know if it is because I am paying attention this year, or maybe I’m just older and thus more aware of it, but it seems there’s a LOT going on in 2010. The Haiti, Chile and then Qinghai earthquakes, Eyjafjallajökull, the Polish plane crash in Russia, there was the Olympics, the Expo, and of course, the World Cup.
And then there’s BP.
Unless you have literally...

There are few times (that I can remember, at least) where I was counting down every minute of class. I was one of those kids that didn’t mind being at school, I rather enjoyed it. But it must have been grade 5, every day I would count down the seconds until that final bell. I had to leave. I had to. Running home, all I could think about was filling my head with those strange images on the...

There is a reason I call this my journal and not a blog. I’m not one to follow the conventional microblogging that is Tumblr (I’d like to differentiate my twitter from my tumblr, thank you very much), but rather use it as a place to express whatever I want or whatever tends to sit and ferment in whatever-it-is-that’s-up-there. Sometimes my thoughts are unfinished, jumpy, or just ended...

know a lot of things. Oh God are there a lot of things that I know. Useless tidbits of trivia boil over like fluttering water in the fountain that is my brain, over and over. The fountain is forever expanding (or so it seems) as more and more information is piled up higher and higher. But then again, there is an exponential amount of things I do not know.
Think about all the things you do not...

That’s it—I’ve got one day left to live. I will be dead in 24 hours, and I need to make up my mind about what the very last meal is going to be… oh em gee; this is my last meal. Excuse me while I cry do that thing that manly-men do when they are scared and sad.
Whatever that is.
It’s like pasta cake; a great big mountain of layers upon layers of delicious cheesy and meaty...

I was sitting at the table between A&W and Opa!. I watched people, some fat, some thin, some attractive, many ugly… lots of grey hair, lots of blond, lots of brown. Some Asians, tons of whites, a couple Middle-Easterners. One ginger. Some people had tattoo sleeves, some had eclectic fashion tastes, some had blindingly sparkly earrings. Every person was different.
But everyone was the same.

Maybe you’ve heard of Ork Posters. Maybe you haven’t… Ork is a poster company based in Chicago that makes the most beautiful neighbourhood maps (with the new inclusion of a Brain and a Heart too!). I absolutely adore what they make, and have tempted myself on buying them all so many times. I’m a sucker for simplicity/minimalism and typography, so of course these Ork girls...

One of the surest signs confirming my membership to the human-clan is my ability to dream. The REM, the nightmares, the giddy dreams, the wet pleasant dreams… dreaming is just a daily routine I have joined in on, along with the other almost-7 billion people on Earth.
I’ve noticed through the years I have several reoccurring components that ultimately make up a night for me.
All....

What a monumental, memorable, magical occasion this is: I have been on Twitter for more than one year. A tad tardy, this belated birthday of my induction into the twittersphere is definitely worth celebrating at a later day, rather than never (wow, talk about some alliteration skills!). As a gift, here’s everything you could want to know about what happens in exactly 1,500 tweets over 1...

By following this incredibly true little tidbit, I have concluded that I am fearful of how awful tomorrow will be, but am looking forward to Wednesday.
Today sucked… but oh God is tomorrow going to be terrible. Thank Heavens for Wednesdays. And then Thursday is going to be superb as well! Funny how life works.

I made a promise to myself at the beginning of the year, some 48-ish days ago, that I would try to keep the blogging diverse and interesting, but most of all consistent. And unfortunately, one and a half months into the personal challenge, I have already begun to wither from this reality. I am trying, though, so stay patient; I’mma fire the creativity neurons and pump out some shtuff soon....

I used to read a lot when I was young younger. This was back in the day when my allotted computer time was restricted to one hour, and reading two chapters of a book was considered homework. Oh the labour!
One of the many joys I had to escape the trudge of homework was, ironically, more reading. Specifically, reading strip comics. I would go to the public library almost every weekend (after...

I, like any other sensible, creative, and/or snobbish cool kid, love Vimeo so much more than that God-awful YouTube nonsense. It’s more formal. More upbeat. Less overwhelming. Not convinced? Well here, these are some of my favourite videos I have found there.
They make me happy.
* no, they did not pay me $127 for advertising…. :)

It is different for each and every one of us, but somewhere out there in this vast pool of a universe, there is an entity that has the ability to render you useless; you are unable to think, unable to talk. You can only watch with amazement as the sheer beauty of this thing overwhelms you.
Maybe you haven’t felt it yet. Maybe you have felt it half-a-dozen times.
Just like the famous Rent...

Ever since my first raptor encounter 2 years, 3 months and 18 days ago, I have been unable to shake the predator from my mind. I should be more famous than I am, seeing as I am one of the — what is it, like 12? — few survivors of known velociraptor attacks. I won’t go into the horrific details of that experience, but instead prepare you for the inevitable raptor apocalypse.

There is something rather peculiar about classical music. The so called scientists (are these the same buffoons too lazy to find the g-spot?) claim that it relaxes the mind and body and allows you to concentrate, within a certain tempo range. They say this applies to every human on the planet, as we all have the same noggin’.
So then what the hell is wrong with ME? Why am I the unlucky...
